Flanders Connects Continents is a project run by Journalismfund.eu under its Flemish Pascal Decroos Fund grant programme, providing €120,000 for working grants for Sub-Saharan African journalists collaborating with Flemish colleagues or vice versa.
The new grant programme will allocate a total of €120,000 in grant money to teams of investigative journalists over a period of six months. In order to be eligible to apply for a grant, a team has to consist of at least one Flemish and at least one Sub-Sahara African investigative journalist. Additional international team members are free to join.
The money for the grants and for the support (€168,000 in total) comes from the Departement Internationaal Vlaanderen of the Flemish government.
The application procedure
Before you can start with your application, you will need to register. Write down a username and enter your e-mail address. An e-mail will be sent to you with a link through which you can choose a password. Once you've done that, you're ready to start your application.
It might be wise to flick through the application module beforehand, so you know what it looks like and what type of information we need about the project. Be prepared to answer questions such as:
- What is the core conflict of the story?
- What is your working hypothesis?
- Who are the main actors?
- What is your research plan; how do you plan to document your hypothesis?
You can save your application at any time (once you've filled in or checked the obligatory fields) and return to it at any time until the deadline.
!! Make sure you've completed all the fields and uploaded all necessary documents before the deadline. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO EDIT YOUR APPLICATION AFTER THE DEADLINE !!
All applications will be screened by a separate, independent, anonymous jury of four people with ample experience in investigative journalism in Africa and Europe. The jury members are chosen by Journalismfund.eu. Their names will be made public after all grants have been awarded.
